9/23/2013- Yankees def. SF Giants 2 out of 3, Mets sweep Phillies, NY Jets def. Bills, Panthers def. NY Giants, more

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good weekend. I have been away for a while since I had some personal matters to take care of, but now I am back and am ready to entertain you with my thoughts. Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Here we go!

MLB
During the weekend, the New York Yankees hosted the San Francisco Giants in a 3 game set at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees won the 1st 2 games, but failed to sweep on Sunday as they lost 2-1. What made this loss more devastating is that the Yankees are now 4 games back of the wild card, and it was announced today that CC Sabathia will be out for the remainder of the season. I hate to say this, but the Yankees are officially snake-bit and highly unlikely there will be postseason baseball in October. Technically, the Yankees are still "in the hunt". However, with teams ahead of them playing a lot better baseball, things don't look good for them.

The positive to take out from this weekend was that yesterday, the Yankees honored and celebrated Mariano Rivera's career. Legends such as Jorge Posada, Paul O'Neill, Hideki Matsui, Joe Torre along with many others attended this celebration. The coolest part was that Metallica performed Enter Sandman live at Yankee Stadium during the ceremony.

Keep in mind, this is a fan-recorded feed of the Mariano Rivera ceremony. I don't know if YES Network has uploaded this on their YouTube channel.

On the other side, the New York Mets have swept the Philadelphia Phillies in which I believe is the 1st time this season. I read that the Mets have moved to 3rd place with the sweep, but that means nothing since the rest of the NL East isn't making the postseason and only the Braves have won the division.

NFL
Yesterday, the New York Giants were on the road facing the Carolina Panthers. And I have to say, this would be considered a massacre for Giants fans since the Giants were shut out 38-0. Not only does this shut out hurt, but this is the 1st time since 1996 that the Giants have started 0-3.

Later in the day, the New York Jets hosted the Buffalo Bills at home, and they won this game 27-20. However, this game had it's negatives since the Jets were penalized so many times, and Kyle Wilson was this close to being ejected from the game. Luckily, the offense played well since Bilal Powell, Santonio Holmes, and Geno Smith had a nice day (despite the 2 turnovers).

UFC
This past Saturday, UFC 165 took place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Overall, there were 13 fights on the card. 4 were streamed on Facebook, the other 4 aired on Fox Sports 1, while the rest aired on PPV. Here are the results:

Facebook
  • Daniel Omielanczuk def. Nandor Guelmino via KO in Round 3
  • Alex Caceres def. Roland Delorme via split decision
  • Michel Prazeres def. Jesse Ronson via split decision
  • John Makdessi def. Renee Forte via KO at Round 1
Fox Sports 1
  • Mitch Gagnon def. Dustin Kimura via technical submission in Round 1
  • Stephen Thompson def. Chris Clements via KO at Round 2
  • Wilson Reis def. Ivan Menjivar via unanimous decision
  • Myles Jury def. Mike Ricci via split decision
PPV
  • Khabib Nurmagomedov def. Pat Healy via unanimous decision
  • Francis Carmont def. Costa Philippou via unanimous decision
  • Brendan Schaub def. Matt Mitrione via technical submission at Round 1
  • Renan Barao def. Eddie Wineland via TKO at Round 2 to become the Interim UFC Bantamweight Champion
  • Jon "Bones" Jones def. Alexander Gustafsson via unanimous decision to retain the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship

WWE
It was announced by 2K Sports that the WWE 2K14 Roster Reveal will be done tonight during Monday Night Raw. Tune in tonight to find out who will be in this year's game.

That's all I have to say for now. Enjoy the rest of your week!

9/9/2013- NY Jets def. Tampa Bay, Cowboys def. NY Giants, Red Sox def. Yankees 3 out of 4, Indians def. Mets 2 out of 3, more

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great weekend, and as you all know Football is Back! Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Here we go!

MLB

Over the weekend, the Yankees hosted the Boston Red Sox in a 4 game set. The Yankees lost the 1st 2 games when the bullpen blew the lead, and the 3rd game was lost due to David Huff giving up a lot of runs. The Yankees attempted a comeback on Saturday, but it wasn't meant to be. However, the Yankees managed to avoid a sweep when in the bottom of the 9th, the score was tied 3-3. Boston's reliever Workman pitched a wild pitch and Ichiro Suzuki capitalized the opportunity and scored at home. Overall, the Yankees looked terrible in the series against the Red Sox, but at the end it's better to get an ugly win over a pretty loss.

Meanwhile for the Mets, they were in Cleveland to face the Indians in a 3 game set. The Indians won the 1st 2 games, but managed to avoid a sweep on Sunday.

Tonight, the Yankees will be on the road facing Baltimore in a 4 game set, while the Mets will be hosting the Washington Nationals in a 4 game set.

NFL

Yesterday, the New York Jets hosted the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their Week 1 matchup. It was a close game, but at the end the Jets managed to win via field goal 18-17. Here are the highlights:

Later that evening, the New York Giants opened their season on the road by facing the Dallas Cowboys, and it was a game to forget for Giants fans as the Giants turned the ball over 5 times. Eli Manning threw 3 picks, while David Wilson fumbled twice. The final score was 36-31 Dallas. Here are the highlights:

Bellator
This past Saturday, Bellator 98 took place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Here are the results of the main card:
  • Derek Anderson def. Patricky Freire via unanimous decision
  • Perry Filkins def. Jeremy Kimball via submission at Round 3
  • Brennan Ward def. Justin Torrey via TKO at Round 2
  • Jason Butcher def. Giva Santana via TKO at Round 2
  • Mikkel Parlo def. Brian Rogers via unanimous decision
  • Alexander Shlemenko def. Brett Cooper via unanimous decision to retain the Bellator Middleweight Championship
Here are the highlights:

WWE
Tonight on Raw, WWE Hall of Famer Edge will make a guest appearance. Also, Goldust will make an appearance to face Randy Orton in order to win Cody Rhodes' job back.

That's all I have to say for now. Have a good week!
