2/25/2013- Granderson out for 10 weeks, UFC 157 Results, Preview of Raw, more

Hello everyone, I hope all of you had a great weekend this weekend. I got some bad news and some good news. Let's first start with the bad news before I get to the positives, shall we? Here we go!

MLB
Usually I don't talk a lot about baseball during this time as it's Spring Training, but I have to make an exception for this one. During yesterday's exhibition game against division rival Toronto Blue Jays, left-fielder Curtis Granderson (No, this is NOT a typo. Girardi was experimenting to switch Grandy and Gardner in the outfield during spring training before the injury occured) was hit by a pitch at bat. The pain was severe enough that the Yankees coaching staff took him out of the game, and reported that he will miss 10 weeks. Freak accidents can occur at times, but what grinds my gears is how the New York media is writing off the Yankees.

First of all, I don't get why the New York media looks down at our AL and AFC team? I'm aware of the fact that before the Yankees were formed, New York City was considered a National League town as the Dodgers and Giants were the powerhouses. Once the Yankees moved to NY from Baltimore, they were considered the team that's "invading their territory". We all know that the Dodgers & Giants left NYC for California, and the Yankees were considered the only NY baseball team until the Mets were formed as an expansion team in '62. All I saying to the old school fans and media folks, MOVE ON!!! Those days are over.

The Jets faced a similar situation when they were formed in 1960 in the AFL, and fans of the NFL Giants also felt that their territory was invaded. However, that's a different story for a different time as this is a baseball topic, not football.

In short, the person who wrote this article is someone who just wants to irritate Yankees fans. I originally found this on Facebook that ESPN New York shared. What surprises me is that WABC Facebook page also shared the same article: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/yankees/post/_/id/49886/worst-lineup-since-1991

Now, there are two ESPN NY beat writers who irritate me. Rich Cimini (beat writer for the NY Jets) and Andrew Marchand (beat writer for the Yankees). Instead of reading articles from people that want to irritate us, I recommend reading an article that is written by true Yankees fans: http://bleedingyankeeblue.blogspot.com/2013/02/tough-break-for-granderson.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+blogspot%2FoWzDD+%28Bleeding+Yankee+Blue%29

The link that I shared is from the blog called "Bleeding Yankee Blue".

UFC
UFC 157 took place on Saturday night at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Overall, there were 12 fights on the card. 3 were streamed live on Facebook, 4 aired on FX, while the rest aired on PPV. Here are the results:

Facebook
  • Nah-Shon Burrell def Yuri Villefort via unanimous decision
  • Neil Magny def Jon Manley via unanimous decision
  • Kenny Robertson def Brock Jardine via submission at Round 1
FX
  • Sam Stout def Caros Fodor via split decision
  • Dennis Bermudez def Matt Grice via split decision
  • Michael Chiesa def Anton Kuivanen via submission at Round 2
  • Brendan Schaub def Lavar Johnson via unanimous decision
PPV
  • Robbie Lawler def Josh Koscheck via TKO at Round 1
  • Court McGee def Josh Neer via unanimous decision
  • Urijah Faber def Ivan Menjivar via submission at Round 1
  • Lyoto Machida def Dan Henderson via split decision
  • Ronda Rousey def Liz Carmouche via submission at Round 1 to retain the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship
The night was considered a historic night at it was the first time, female MMA fighters fought in the UFC. It's an accomplishment for both Rousey and Carmouche to main event at the PPV since in the past, UFC didn't have a women's division.

WWE
Tonight on Raw is the main event featuring John Cena vs CM Punk where the winner will face The Rock at WrestleMania for the WWE Championship. Also, there will be a street fight between Vince McMahon and Paul Heyman.

Later this week, it's Social Media SmackDown as social media will be involved in this week's SmackDown. Although the show is taped, this episode will feature live tweets from fans and what not. Here's a promo:

More will be shared later on about the social media episode of SmackDown. That's all I have to say for now. Have a good week!

2/22/2013- Baseball is back!, Road to WrestleMania, more

Hey everyone! I hope all of you had a good week this week. Unfortunately I have some bad news for those who watch my YouTube show. The Weekly Update will be on an unplanned hiatus since my PC has been really slow as of late. I'm currently posting this blog from another computer, so I can still use the website to post stuff. I hope to get my situation fixed as soon as possible. In the meantime, let's get right to it, shall we? Here we go!

MLB
This is no glitch at all. Baseball is back! Even though it's freezing outside during the month of February, spring training is officially underway. Since the games don't really matter, I won't post any results during Spring Training, but rather a schedule of games from this blog post up to the regular season. Here is the schedule:

Yankees

  • 2/23- @Braves
  • 2/24- vs Blue Jays
  • 2/25- @Orioles
  • 2/26- @Phillies
  • 2/27- vs Orioles
  • 2/28- SS @Astros, SS vs Blue Jays
  • 3/1- vs Phillies
  • 3/2- vs Tigers
Mets
  • 2/23- vs Nationals
  • 2/24- SS vs University of Michigan Wolverines, SS @Astros
  • 2/25- vs Nationals
  • 2/26- @Marlins
  • 2/27- vs Cardinals
  • 2/28- @Nationals
  • 3/1- vs Tigers
  • 3/2- vs Marlins
WWE
As you may know, the Road to WrestleMania is now full circle. The one thing I really like was when The Rock introduced a new WWE Championship belt, finally getting rid of the Spinner Belt.

Also, a match set for next week is John Cena vs CM Punk. Cena will put his WrestleMania opportunity that he won at the Royal Rumble on the line against CM Punk where the winner will face The Rock at WrestleMania.

Bellator
Bellator 90 took place last night at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah. Here are the results of the main card:
  • Mikhail Zayats def Jacob Noe via Submission at Round 1
  • Douglas Lima def Bryan Baker via KO at Round 1
  • Emanuel Newton def Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal via KO at Round 1
  • Shahbulat Shamhaleev def Rad Martinez via KO at Round 2
Here are the highlights:

That's all I have to say for now. Have a good weekend!

2/4/2013- Baltimore Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII, Bruno Sammartino to be inducted into WWE Hall of Fame

Hey everyone! I hope all of you had a great weekend! Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Here we go!

NFL
Yesterday was the Super Bowl, and it took place in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Louisiana Superdome. The Baltimore Ravens faced the San Francisco 49ers, and there were moments to remember. Notable moments include a brawl that took place after Kaepernick threw a pick, which would've resulted in an ejection of players, the halftime show which Beyonce looked really nice, and a partial power outage that resulted in the game being suspended for 30 minutes. After the power outage, the 49ers all of a sudden looked to make a come from behind win, but the Ravens sealed the deal and made sure they emerged as Super Bowl Champions. Here are the highlights:

Now that football season is officially over, this will be the last time I'll mention football (unless something newsworthy happens during the off season) until the New York Jets and New York Giants report to training camp and start preseason. As a Jets fan, I'm really happy that football season is over, and now I can look forward to Yankees baseball season to start.

WWE
It was announced in an article on Pro Wrestling.Net that Bruno Sammartino, who is the longest reigning WWE Champion in history (back when it was the World Wide Wrestling Federation) will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. This comes as a surprise since Bruno left the World Wrestling Federation on bad terms with Vince McMahon and didn't want to do anything related to the WWE. However, I read that Triple H personally visited Bruno at his home, and convinced Bruno to accept the induction as the WWE has changed into a family friendly format and it was no longer the controversial Attitude Era. Keep in mind, this is just a story so I don't know what really happened. In my opinion, this is an induction that is long-awaited and well deserved. Congratulations to Bruno Sammartino on his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2013. He will be joining the likes of Mick Foley, Bob Backlund, and Trish Stratus. And that's a very strong HOF class

More details will be shared tonight on Raw

That's all I have to say for now. Enjoy the rest of your week!
