5/25/2012- Yankees def Royals 2 out of 3, Mets def Pirates 2 out of 3, WWE Raw review, more

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great week this week! As you may know, this weekend is Memorial Day weekend and there will be a big fight tomorrow in the UFC as Junior Dos Santos will defend his title against Frank Mir. More information will be shared as you read along. Here we go!

MLB
In an attempt to end their losing streak, the Yankees made a successful attempt in getting a win on Tuesday and Wednesday, after getting shut out on Monday. Not only did the win help them avoid last place in the AL East, but it made the Yankees gain momentum facing the teams in the West Coast. The Mets were concluding their road trip by falling short on Monday, then achieving victories on Tuesday and Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Mets will continue their series at home against the San Diego Padres, which started with a loss yesterday. The Yankees will face the Oakland Athletics this weekend at the west coast.

WWE
After Sunday's Over the Limit PPV, Raw kicked off with John Cena asking why The Big Show interfered in his match against John Laurinaitis. The Big Show would explain it in this video.

Overall, it was an average Raw as there was nothing special going on at all. The highlight of the show was the interaction between AJ and CM Punk. To me, that was considered the "Crowning Moment of Funny".

MMA
Tonight is the season finale of Bellator Fighting Championships Season 6 tournament. The main event will be Eric Prindle vs Cole Konrad for the Bellator Heavyweight Championship. Tomorrow night is UFC 146, where the entire main card will be all heavyweights, including a UFC Heavyweight title fight between UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos against Frank Mir.

Outside of Sports
Toonami fans! If you heard, Toonami is coming back, and will be on Adult Swim this Saturday at midnight. Toonami did come back for one night on April Fools Day, but it was only a one-time event.

For those who aren't familiar with Toonami at all, here's a video clip to refresh your memories.

Overall, there were 5 hosts of Toonami's original run. Moltar, TOM 1, TOM 2, TOM 3, TOM 4. Luckily, I was alive to see all of the hosts. By popular demand, TOM 3 will be the host on the revival of Toonami on Adult Swim.

That's all I have to say for now. In the words of Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop, "Stay Gold....Bang!"

5/21/2012- WWE Over the Limit results, Bellator 69 results, White Sox sweep Cubs, Reds def Yankees 2 out of 3, Blue Jays def Mets 2 out of 3, more

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great weekend this weekend. As many of you all heard in the world of professional wrestling, World Wrestling Entertainment and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling have decided to spice things up in their respective programmings. More information will be shared as you read along. Here we go!

WWE
Last Thursday before Over the Limit PPV, WWE has announced that starting on July 23rd, Monday Night Raw will go 3 hours. This will coincide with the 1000th episode coming up. Now onto the PPV, the main event was between John Cena vs John Laurinaitis. Here are the results:

YouTube/Facebook/WWE.com
  • Kane def Zack Ryder
Before the PPV went on the air, a battle royal was announced where the winner of the battle royal would either face Cody Rhodes for the Intercontinental Championship or Santino Marella for the United States Championship. The entrances were aired for the commentators for the PPV, as Matt Striker and Josh Matthews stepped aside for Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, and Booker T to do commentary. Once the PPV commentators sat down, the entrances were aired for the Battle Royal participants. The participants of the battle royal were David Otunga, Tyson Kidd, Alex Riley, The Usos, William Regal, The Great Khali, Heath Slater, Titus O'Neill, Darren Young, Ezekiel Jackson, Jinder Mahal, Tyler Reks, Curt Hawkins, Drew McIntyre, Michael McGillicutty, JTG, Yoshi Tatsu, The Miz, and Christian. Onto the PPV...

PPV
  • Christian wins the battle royal by last eliminating The Miz. Christian announced that he would challenge for the United States title
  • Kofi Kingston & R-Truth def Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship
  • Layla def Beth Phoenix to retain the Divas Championship
  • Sheamus def Alberto Del Rio, Randy Orton, and Chris Jericho in a Fatal-4-Way to retain the World Heavyweight Championship
  • Brodus Clay def The Miz
During a backstage segment, Cody Rhodes talked trash against Christian, which Christian overheard. He then decided to change his mind and challenge for the Intercontinental Championship. This would lead to...
  • Christian def Cody Rhodes to become the NEW Intercontinental Champion
  • CM Punk def Daniel Bryan to retain the WWE Championship
  • Ryback def Camacho
  • John Laurinaitis def John Cena (due to interference from the "recently fired" Big Show)*
*- the stipulation was that had Laurinaitis lost the match, he would be terminated.

Impact Wrestling
On the same day WWE announced that Monday Night Raw will go 3 hours, TNA President Dixie Carter announced via Twitter that starting May 31st, Impact Wrestling will go live starting at 8 PM every Thursday throughout the summer.

Bellator
Bellator 69 took place last Friday. Here are the results from the main card:
  • Mark Holata def Abe Wagner via submission at Round 1
  • Jessica Aguilar def Megumi Fuji via unanimous decision
  • Karl Amoussou def David Rickels via split decision to advance to the Welterwight Tournament Final
  • Maiquel Falcao def Andreas Spang via unanimous decision to win the Bellator Season 6 Middleweight Tournament
It was announced by Bjorn Rebney that Maiquel Falcao and Alexander Shlemenko will face off to determine the NEW Bellator Middleweight Champion at a later date. The Middleweight title was vacated, due to Hector Lombard departing for the UFC.

Here are the highlights:

MLB
This past weekend was Interleague weekend, as the Yankees hosted the Cincinatti Reds and won only the first game, but fell short the remaining 2 games. The Mets would travel to Toronto to face the Blue Jays. Jays won the 1st 2 games, but the Mets won yesterday to avoid a sweep. Also, the two Chicago baseball teams faced off in the Crosstown Classic, which the White Sox came out on top and swept the Cubs at Wrigley.

This week, the Yankees will host the Kansas City Royals before heading out for the West Coast tour on Thursday. The Mets will face the Pittsburgh Pirates from today to Wednesday, then will return to Queens to host the San Diego Padres in a 4 game series, starting Thursday.

That's all I have to say for now. Have a good week!

5/14/2012- Yankees def Mariners 2 out of 3, Marlins def Mets 2 out of 3, Bellator 68 Results, more

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great weekend as this weekend was Mother's Day weekend. There were a lot of newsworthy events that occurred over the weekend as you read along, so here we go!

MLB
During the weekend, the Yankees defeated the Mariners on Friday and Saturday, but the Seattle team avoided a sweep on Sunday when it was also the day of Andy Pettitte's return to The Bronx. Meanwhile for the Mets, they fell short on Friday, won on Saturday, but couldn't win the series on Sunday to the Miami Marlins.

This week, the Yankees will be heading on the road to Baltimore for only 2 days to face the Orioles, then head north of the border to face the Toronto Blue Jays for 2 days as well. The Mets will host the Milwaukee Brewers for 2 days, then face the Cincinatti Reds for 2 days as well. The reason why is mainly due to interleague weekend coming up.

Bellator
Bellator 68 took place on Friday night in Caesar's Casino in Atlantic City, NJ and aired on MTV 2. Here are the results from the main card:
  • Marius Zaromskis def Waachiim Spiritwolf via Doctor's Stoppage after Round 2
  • Marcin Held def Derrick Kennington via submission at Round 1
  • Marcos Galvao def Travis Marx to advance to the Bantamweight Tournament Final
  • Daniel Straus def Marlon Sandro to win the Season 6 Featherweight Tournament
Here are the highlights from Bellator 68:

UFC
This Tuesday, UFC will host a UFC on Fuel TV event, where it will emanate from the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia, and will be headlined by "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung and Dustin Poirier. If you don't have FuelTV, you can also view it on FOX Deportes as well since Deportes will simulcast the event in Spanish.

WWE
This past Friday on SmackDown focused on the feud between Randy Orton, Sheamus, Chris Jericho, and Alberto Del Rio since all four of them will face each other for Sheamus' World Title at Over the Limit. Also, it was a continuation of the confrontation between The Big Show and John Laurinaitis since last week on Raw, Show imitated Johnny Ace's voice. Overall, it was an okay episode, where the hit was solely on the feud for the World Heavyweight Championship. The one thing I didn't like was Antonio Cesaro's theme song. Come on, he was part of a famous tag team with Chris Hero in ROH, and gets a generic theme song for his debut match. And Aksana as his valet?! What's up with that?!

This Monday on Raw will continue where Johnny Ace and Big Show left on SmackDown, and Triple H is scheduled to make an appearance. Also, it was announced late last week that WWE NXT will move their tapings to Full Sail University in Florida where it will focus on the developmental talent from FCW and the NXT wrestlers.

That's all I have to say for now. Have a good week!

5/11/2012- "King" Muhammed Lawal signs with Impact Wrestling and Bellator Fighting Championships, Mets sweep Phillies, Yankees def Rays 2 out of 3, more

Hello everyone! I'm back from my hiatus. I had final exams going on earlier this week and during most of April, I had no time to blog at all. However, I'm back and I got some stories to share as you read along. Here we go!!

Impact Wrestling/Bellator

As you may know, former Strikeforce fighter "King" Muhammed Lawal has signed simultaneously to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and Bellator Fighting Championships. The press conference was held yesterday, and Spike TV was there to cover this.

As seen on the video above, King Mo will make his Impact Wrestling debut first before joining Bellator in 2013. In my opinion, I think this is a great idea, and it breaks the stereotype that pro wrestling and mixed martial arts can't get along. As for how King Mo will make an impact, let's see what happens.

Here is a picture from the press conference yesterday:

MLB
So far in the world of Major League Baseball, it's been topsy-turvy. All of the good teams from last year are doing bad, and all of the bad teams from last year are doing good. What's up with that? Anyways, earlier in the week, the New York Mets visited the Philadelphia Phillies and delivered a 3 game sweep. Meanwhile, back in the Bronx, the Yankees got a win over the Rays on Tuesday, lost on Wednesday due to a blown save from David Robertson, and won yesterday to win the series.

This weekend, the Yankees will host the Mariners, while the Mets will play in Miami against the Miami Marlins.

WWE
This past Monday on Raw was an episode where "The Bad Guys won the battle". John Laurinaitis took his power of GM and used it for his own personal gain as last week he attacked John Cena. Overall, it was an okay Raw, but the highlight from that episode was when Paul Heyman made his return as Brock Lesnar's legal representative.

That's all I have to say for now. Have a good weekend!

5/8/2012- I'm back!

Hello everyone! The inactivity period of the NYCKNP Blog is unofficially over. It will be officially over later this week when I start returning to bi-weekly blogging. My final exams are pretty much over so I will now start to blog again during my free time. I don't have anything to share for now, but I will share some links to read that I thought were interesting.
