8/30/2013- Blue Jays def Yankees 2 out of 3, Mets/Phillies split series, NFL Preseason Finale, more

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a good week this week. Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Here we go!

MLB
Earlier this week, the Yankees were in Toronto to face the Blue Jays in a 3 game set. The Yankees lost the 1st game, won the 2nd game, and lost the 3rd game to lose the series. This marks the 1st time the Yankees have a lost a series against the Blue Jays this season. Meanwhile, the Mets hosted the Philadelphia Phillies in a 4 game set. The Mets lost on Monday, won on Tuesday, lost on Wednesday, and won on Thursday.

The Yankees will host the Baltimore Orioles in a 3 game set, while the Mets will be in DC to take on the Washington Nationals this weekend. This is now or never for the Yankees if they want to make a spot in the postseason.

Edit (7:24 PM): Also notable this week was the Mets trading Marlon Byrd and John Buck to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for a prospect from the Minor Leagues. It was a sad day for Mets fans since Byrd was a crowd favorite this year, but it had to be done since the Pirates are attempting to get a spot in the postseason while the Mets build for the future. I guess you could say the Byrd will be the word in the Steel City.

NFL
Yesterday was the NFL Preseason Finale as players were fighting for a roster spot. The New York Jets were hosting the Philadelphia Eagles, while the New York Giants were in Foxboro, Mass to face the New England Patriots. The Jets won over the Eagles, while the Giants fell to the Patriots. Overall, the Jets finished 3-1 in the preseason, while the Giants finished 1-3. The real season will start after Labor Day weekend.

UFC
This past Wednesday, UFC Fight Night took place at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. Overall, there were 12 fights on the card. 2 were streamed on Facebook, 4 aired on Fox Sports 2, while the rest aired on Fox Sports 1. Here are the results:

Facebook
  • Rogers Bowling vs. Abel Trujillo fought to a No Contest in Round 2
  • Zak Cummings def. Ben Alloway via submission in Round 1
Fox Sports 2
  • Jason High def. James Head via submission in Round 1
  • Darren Elkins def. Hatsu Hioki via unanimous decision
  • Brandon Thatch def. Justin Edwards via TKO at Round 1
  • Dylan Andrews def. Papy Abedi via KO at Round 3

Here is a recap of UFC Fight Night:

8/26/2013- #WrestlingWithGreenPinstripes

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great weekend. Since there's a lot to talk about, I decided the best thing to name this article is #WrestlingWithGreenPinstripes. Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Here we go!

WWE

Last Sunday was the SummerSlam PPV, and you all know what happened afterwards. In the main event, Daniel Bryan def. John Cena to win the WWE Championship. However, the special guest referee Triple H pedigreed him after the match. Thus, Randy Orton cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to win the WWE Championship after the attack. What made this significant is Triple H and Orton embracing at the conclusion of the PPV. The Raw after SummerSlam, John Cena announced that he will have surgery on his elbow, thus being out for 4-6 months.

Now that Cena is out of the picture, the focus now shifts to Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton. Here are the highlights from last week's WWE Programming:

NFL
This past Saturday was the MetLife Bowl between the New York Jets and the New York Giants. Since the Giants were the designated home team, the Jets wore road uniforms. Overall, this was an ugly preseason game on both sides as both offenses struggled. What was worse was that Mark Sanchez entered the 4th quarter with backup lineman, thus exposing himself to injury. After that hit from Giants defensive tackle Marvin Austin, Sanchez injured his right shoulder. He is listed as day to day.

MLB
This week, the Yankees will be in Toronto to face the Blue Jays in a 3 game set. Meanwhile for the Mets, they will be hosting the Phillies in a 3 game set. The sad news is that Mets star pitcher Matt Harvey will be shut down for the rest of the year due to UCL injury. Here's hoping Harvey recovers faster and returns stronger.

That's all I have to say for now. Have a good week!

8/16/2013- Yankees def. Angels 3 out of 4, Dodgers sweep Mets, preview of WWE SummerSlam, more

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great week this week. There's a lot to talk about in this article since this is a big weekend for sports. With that, let's cut to the chase, shall we? Here we go!

MLB
Earlier this week, the Yankees hosted the Los Angeles Angels in a 4 game set. The Yankees won the 1st game in an ugly fashion, but the next 2 games were blowouts in the Yankees favor. Unfortunately, the Yankees couldn't sweep due to Phil Hughes being on the mound. Here's a highlight on one of the games:

Meanwhile for the Mets, they were in Los Angeles to face the Dodgers and they were swept. Here's a highlight on one of the games:

This weekend, the Yankees will be in Boston to take on the Red Sox in a 3 game set. The Mets have already started a 4 game set against the San Diego Padres yesterday, and won yesterday's game. Mets will continue that series this weekend.

Also, it was announced that Mark Reynolds was claimed off waivers by the Yankees. He will play tonight.

NFL
This weekend, the New York Jets will host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, while the New York Giants will host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in the second week of preseason games.

WWE
This Sunday, WWE will be hosting SummerSlam. Here's are some highlights from this past Raw to promote SummerSlam.

UFC
Tomorrow, Speed and FuelTV will be gone and replaced by Fox Sports 1 & 2 respectively. That means that UFC will host an event called UFC on FOX Sports 1. Results will be shared later.

That's all I have to say for now. Enjoy your weekend.

8/12/2013- Yankees def. Tigers 2 out of 3, Mets def. Diamondbacks 2 out of 3, NFL Preseason results, more

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great weekend. Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Here we go!

MLB
During the weekend, the Yankees hosted the Detroit Tigers in a 3 game set. On Friday, the Yankees won, but not without some controversy as Yankees closer Mariano Rivera blew a 2 run lead. Luckily, the Yankees answered back when Brett Gardner had a walk off single to win in the bottom of the 9th. Saturday, they took a predictable loss, but Sunday was the win where it garnered headlines as A-Rod hit his 1st home run of 2013, Alfonso Soriano achieved his 2000th hit, Rivera blew a save for the 3rd straight time, and Gardner hit a solo HR to win in the bottom of the 9th. This was the first time the Yankees won a series since early July.

Meanwhile for the Mets, they were in Phoenix to face the Arizona Diamondbacks in a 3 game set. The Mets lost the 1st game, but won the next 2 games to win the series. Here are notable highlights from the series:

This week it'll be a New York vs. Los Angeles matchup for both teams as the Yankees will host the Angels in a 4 game set, while the Mets will be in Los Angeles to face the Dodgers in a 3 game set.

NFL
This past Friday, the New York Jets were in Detroit to face the Detroit Lions in the 1st preseason game of 2013. What's notable about this series is the quarterback competition between Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith. Sanchez got the start in the 1st quarter. Early on, Sanchez made a hiccup as he threw an interception returned for a touchdown. However, there was no reason to be sad as he made up the bad play by throwing a TD pass to Jeff Cumberland near the end of the 1st quarter. Geno Smith would enter the 2nd quarter and make some plays that were mostly conservative play calls. The unfortunate thing was that Geno's night was cut short due to an ankle sprain. Greg McElroy came in relief to finish the series and the game. The Jets lost the game 26-17.

The following night, the New York Giants were in Pittsburgh to face the Steelers. The Giants won the game 18-13 in an snoozefest:

8/9/2013- Mets sweep Rockies, White Sox sweep Yankees, NFL Preseason, more

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great week this week! Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Here we go!

MLB
If you're a +New York Mets fan, this must be a good week for you. However, if you're a +New York Yankees fan, this must be the worst week for you. On Monday, the Yankees hosted the +Chicago White Sox in a 3 game set from Monday-Wednesday. What's notable from this game was when Alex Rodriguez returned to the Yankees, despite the announcement about his suspension for the rest of the season and the entire 2014. On Monday, Andy Pettitte had the worst game when he gave up a lot of runs early in the game. The following night, Hiroki Kuroda had a decent game, but he had no run support at all. Wednesday was believed to be the nail in the coffin when Mariano Rivera blew the 1 run lead in the 9th and the game went to Extra Innings. Even though the Yankees scored 5 runs, and CC pitching a decent game after a series of bad performances, they just couldn't get the job done.

Meanwhile for the Mets, they swept the +Colorado Rockies 3 games in a row from Tuesday to Thursday, and played competitive baseball throughout. This weekend, the Yankees will host the red hot Detroit Tigers in a 3 game set, while the Mets will begin a 10 game road trip starting in Arizona against the Diamondbacks later tonight.

Just to note, Alex Rodriguez is in tonight's lineup since he's appealing his suspension. A verdict will likely be heard by the end of the season.

NFL
Tonight, the +New York Jets will be in Ford Field to face the +Detroit Lions in the 1st game of the Jets preseason. Tomorrow night, the +New York Giants will be in Heinz Field to face the +Pittsburgh Steelers. I will post the results, and share my thoughts on Monday.

WWE
This past Monday on Raw kicked off when Stephanie McMahon introduced Daniel Bryan's corporate makeover. It was mostly him well-dressed with a ponytail on. The beard remained the same. Even though Vince attempted to coerce Bryan to have his beard shaved by Wade Barrett, a swerve happened and Bryan shaved Wade Barrett's beard.

Other than that, its been mostly an average Raw with not much highlights to discuss about.

That's all I have to say. Have a good weekend!

8/5/2013- A-Rod suspended, Padres def Yankees 2 out of 3, Royals def Mets 2 out of 3, more

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great weekend! Let's cut to the chase because there's a lot to be talking about, shall we? Here we go!

MLB
Over the weekend, the Yankees were in San Diego facing the Padres in a 3 game set. The Yankees lost the 1st game, won the 2nd game, and lost the 3rd game. Meanwhile, for the Mets, they were hosting the Kansas City Royals in a 3 game set. The Mets won the 1st game, but lost the series as they lost 2 straight to KC. The Yankees will be in the South Side of Chicago to take on the White Sox in a 3 game set, while the Mets will host the Colorado Rockies in a 3 game set. However, the bombshell doesn't stop there.

Today, MLB has suspended 13 players, including Alex Rodriguez for the Biogenesis scandal.
According to MLB.com, "The players who were handed 50-game suspensions that effectively end their regular seasons include Rangers outfielder Nelson Cruz, Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta, Mariners catcher Jesus Montero, Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera, Yankees catcher Francisco Cervelli, Phillies reliever Antonio Bastardo and recently demoted Mets utility man Jordany Valdespin."

Out of all the players who will be suspended, Alex Rodriguez received the harshest punishment as he will be suspended for the remainder of the 2013 season, as well as the 2014 season, effective Thursday. The rest of the players agreed to a 50 game suspension, ending their seasons. However, what's the most bizarre story is that Alex Rodriguez is appealing his suspension and will be playing 3rd base tonight against the White Sox. On one hand, it may not be so strange considering that his suspension isn't effective until Thursday, thus A-Rod can play the White Sox series.

Now it's time to change the subject.

UFC

This past Saturday, UFC 163 took place the HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Overall, there 12 fights on the card. Here are the results:

Facebook
  • Viscardi Andrade def. Bristol Marunde via TKO at Round 1
  • Francimar Barroso def. Ednaldo Oliveira via unanimous decision
  • Rani Yahya def. Josh Clopton via unanimous decision
FX
  • Ian McCall def. Iliarde Santos via unanimous decision
  • Sergio Moraes def. Neil Magny via submission at Round 1
  • Amanda Nunes def. Sheila Gaff via TKO at Round 1
  • Anthony Perosh def. Vinny Magalhaes via KO in Round 1
PPV
  • John Lineker def. Jose Maria via TKO at Round 2
  • Thales Leites def. Tom Watson via unanimous decision
  • Cezar Ferreira def. Thiago Santos via submission at Round 1
  • Phil Davis def. Lyoto Machida via unanimous decision
  • Jose Aldo def. Can Sung Jung via TKO at Round 4 to retain the UFC Featherweight Championship

NFL
This weekend was the Pro Football Hall of Fame weekend as inductions took place on Saturday, while the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game took place last night. The matchup was between the Miami Dolphins and the Dallas Cowboys.

Highlights are in this link: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap2000000226223/Dolphins-vs-Cowboys-highlights

WWE
Tonight's Monday Night Raw will be live, and the thing to expect is the "corporate makeover" Stephanie McMahon has scheduled for Daniel Bryan. As they say, schedule is subject to change when it comes to professional wrestling so I'm not sure whether WWE will follow up on this angle.

That's all I have to say for now. Have a good week everyone!

8/2/2013: Yankees/Dodgers split series, Mets/Marlins split series

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great week this week! Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Here we go!

MLB
Earlier this week, the Yankees were in Los Angeles to face the Dodgers in a 2 game set. The Yankees lost the 1st game, but won the 2nd game by rallying late in the game to break a scoreless tie. The player of that series goes to Lyle Overbay since he was the only Yankee to hit a HR in the series in the 1st game, and broke the tie in the 2nd game. The Yankees will be in San Diego to face the Padres in a 3 game set starting tonight. It will be a rematch of the 1998 World Series.

Meanwhile for the Mets, they were in Miami to face the Marlins in a 4 game set. The Mets won the 1st 2 games, but lost the last 2 games. The Mets are currently in progress facing the Kansas City Royals in the 1st game of the series. They will continue the series this weekend.

I'm cutting this short since I started writing this late. Follow me on Twitter at @WGPinstripes , and like me on Facebook Wrestling With Green Pinstripes for more updates.

Have a good weekend!
