1/30/2012- WWE Royal Rumble results, UFC on FOX 2 results, AFC def NFC in the Pro Bowl, more

Hello everyone! Hope everyone had a great weekend! There are only a few days left until the Super Bowl this coming Sunday and will most likely be the last time I mention football until August preseason. Bear with me if I talk a lot of pro wrestling and mixed martial arts during the month of February since Spring Training for the Yankees and Mets doesn't start until March. Here we go!

NFL
As many of you know, the Pro Bowl occurred yesterday in Hawaii as an All Star game between the two conferences of the AFC and NFC. Basically, it was a boring game since no player made any effort to play the game and are just simply having fun. In my opinion, the Pro Bowl needs to be reformed. Example is that whichever conference wins the Pro Bowl will be the designated home conference in the following Super Bowl. Nonetheless, here are the highlights:

At least next Sunday is the real deal when the New York Giants and the New England Patriots face off in the Super Bowl.

WWE
Last night was the 25th Anniversary of the Royal Rumble. I didn't see the PPV, but I heard that the Royal Rumble match was a letdown since there wasn't any top tier talent participating and WWE reverted it back to 30 men. Here are the results:
  • Daniel Bryan def Mark Henry, and The Big Show in a Triple Threat Steel Cage Match to retain the World Heavyweight Championship
  • Beth Phoenix, Natalya, Bella Twins def Kelly Kelly, Eve Torres, Alicia Fox, and Tamina in an 8 diva tag team match
  • John Cena vs Kane went to a double countout
  • Brodus Clay def Drew McIntyre
  • CM Punk def Dolph Ziggler (John Laurinaitis as Special Guest Referee) to retain the WWE Championship
  • Sheamus wins the Royal Rumble, last eliminating Chris Jericho and will either face the WWE Champion or the World Heavyweight Champion at WrestleMania 28
Here are the people who participated in the Rumble and who was eliminated

UFC
UFC on FOX 2 took place on Saturday night at the United Center in Chicago, IL. Overall, there were 10 fights on the card. The preliminaries took place on Fuel TV, but I will give the results on the main card that occurred on FOX:

FOX
  • Chris Weidman def Demian Maia via unanimous decision
  • Chael Sonnen def Michael Bisping via unanimous decision
  • Rashad Evans def Phil Davis via unanimous decision
Ring Ka King
If anyone has not heard, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (a.k.a. TNA) has an offshoot promotion based in Pune, India called Ring Ka King. The show is aired on Colors TV and can also be seen in the USA either on Dish Network or AT&T U-Verse. If you don't have any of these providers, Colors TV will post these episodes on YouTube after it aired on television. The 1st 2 episodes aired over the weekend and while I didn't see the 2nd episode, I will share my thoughts on the 1st. Overall, it was an average product as there wasn't anything special, but it was nice to see the Indian crowd reacting well to the wrestlers. The wrestlers in the show are a mix of domestic and foreign wrestlers. Notable foreigners include Chavo Guerrero, Scott Steiner, Nick Dinsmore (formerly Eugene), Chris Masters (going by American Adonis in the show), Mickie James, and many more. Even though, I'm not a fan of Impact Wrestling as much as I used to, Ring Ka King is a breath of fresh air and for once TNA is doing something right so far. The good news for wrestling fans is that Vince Russo is NOT involved in the Ring Ka King project as the writers are Dutch Mantel and David Lagana. More episodes will air over the course of several weeks, with the season finale airing before cricket season in India.

Here's one of the promos if you aren't familiar:

That's all I have to say for now. Have a great week!

NFL
This weekend was full of surprises as most of the home teams won their respective games. The only upset win was the New York Giants defeating the #1 seed Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Here are the highlights from this weekend:

With that being said, the final four are the New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots, and the Baltimore Ravens. Next week will be the determining factor of who will headline the Super Bowl.

WWE
Here are the highlights from the past week:

Note: This is the the only video I can get embedded into Blogger since WWE has disabled embedding on their videos. Here's a link for a better quality video: http://youtu.be/Kza-9AtJJYs

Here's a preview of next week's SmackDown emanating from Las Vegas:

Misc.
I won't be covering Strikforce MMA anymore since I switched TV providers and I no longer have Showtime. With that being said, there won't be any news on Strikeforce until further notice.

That's all I have to say for now. Have a nice week!!

12/23/2011- 1st blog using Blogger mobile

Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a great week this week as many are finishing up last minute Christmas shopping. This blog, and the following will be typed via Blogger Mobile for Android. The reason why is that I'm currently out of town, and the place where I could get Wi-Fi is charging money. Thus, I'll be using my phone to blog, so bear with me if you don't see any videos for the next 2 blogs. Here we go!

NFL

This Saturday is the biggest game for New York football as the New York Jets host their stadium rival the New York Giants. Sure, both the Giants and the Jets share the same stadium, but this is considered a designated Jets home game. The hype has been going on with the media and both sides are going at each other, but only one shall prevail when it's game time.

That's all I have to say for now. I won't be mentioning wrestling until I get back from my out of town trip. Have a good Christmas weekend!!

12/19/2011- WWE TLC results, Redskins def NY Giants, Eagles def NY Jets, Strikeforce: Melendez vs Masvidal results, more

Hello everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend! This weekend was the weekend of a lot of newsworthy moments such as Green Bay Packers getting their 1st loss, Indianapolis Colts getting their 1st victory of the season, Redskins sweep the series against the NY Giants, Eagles blowing out the NY Jets, Zack Ryder winning the United States Championship, and last but not least Daniel Bryan winning the World Heavyweight Championship. Here are all of the highlights that occurred over the weekend.

WWE
This past Monday on Raw was the Slammy Awards. Here are all of the highlights from the Slammy Awards:

Here is a recap of WWE Week in 90 Seconds:

Also, last night was the WWE TLC PPV. I didn't get to see the PPV, but I heard about what happened. Here are the results:
  • Zack Ryder def Dolph Ziggler to become the NEW United States Champion
  • Air Boom def Primo & Epico to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship
  • Randy Orton def Wade Barrett in a Tables Match
  • Beth Phoenix def Kelly Kelly to retain the Divas Championship
  • Triple H def Kevin Nash in a "Sledgehammer" Ladder Match
  • Sheamus def Jack Swagger
  • Big Show def Mark Henry in a Chairs Match to become the NEW World Heavyweight Champion
But wait, Daniel Bryan cashes in his SmackDown Money in the Bank briefcase and thus:
  • Daniel Bryan def Big Show to become the NEW World Heavyweight Champion
  • Cody Rhodes def Booker T to retain the Intercontinental Championship
  • CM Punk def The Miz and Alberto Del Rio in a triple threat Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match to retain the WWE Championship

ROH
As you all have heard, ROH Final Battle 2011 will be one week from today. Here is a ROH Video Wire from today to hype the iPPV:

Strikeforce
This past Saturday was Strikeforce: Melendez vs Masvidal. Overall, there were 9 fights on the card, but only 4 were televised on Showtime. Here are the results from the main card:
  • KJ Noons def Billy Evangelista via unanimous decision
  • Gegard Mousasi def Ovince St Preux via unanimous decision
  • Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos def Hiroko Yamanaka via TKO at Round 1 to retain the Strikeforce Women's Featherweight Championship
  • Gilbert Melendez def Jorge Masvidal via unanimous decision to retain the Strikeforce Lightweight Championship
NFL
Yesterday was a day of shock in the NFL as both the New York teams lost. Earlier, the NY Giants hosted the Washington Redskins in what would be an attempt to avoid a Washington sweep. However, the attempt was unsuccessful as the game was one sided with Washington in favor. Here are the highlights:

Later that day, the NY Jets played against the Philadelphia Eagles in a big blowout. Here are the highlights from that game:

Not only did both of these teams lost, the Jets and the Giants will play against each other this Saturday. Neither team has any momentum so expect the fans at Metlife Stadium to feel disgruntled.

That's all I have to say for now! Have a good Christmas!

11/28/2011- Bellator 59 Results, NY Jets def Buffalo, preview of WWE Raw, more

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving weekend. I can't believe November is almost over and the Christmas season is just around the corner. Here are all the highlights that took place over the weekend.

NFL
After a 2 game losing streak for the New York Jets, the Jets made a successful attempt to snap the losing streak by beating the Buffalo Bills in the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. The game was very close as both teams went back and forth in touchdowns. At the end of the game, the Jets prevailed. The best part of the game was Marv Albert calling the game, and the one thing I don't get was the sports media saying the Jets didn't deserve to win. Now I know it was an ugly game, but the Jets will take a nasty win for this time. Gang Green isn't out of the woods just yet as they have to face the Redskins, Chiefs, Eagles, Giants on Christmas Eve, and the Dolphins to conclude the season.

The New York Giants will be playing tonight on Monday Night Football as they face the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome. I will give those results on Friday.

Bellator
Bellator 59 aired on MTV 2 as it was the last fight of 2011 and Season 5. However it wasn't met without controversy as the last fight of the season ended in a controversial fashion. Here are the results:
  •  Marcin Held def Phillipe Nover via split decision
  • Eduardo Dantas def Alexis Vila via unanimous decision to win the Season 5 Bantamweight Tournament
  • Patricky "Pitbull" Freire def Kurt Pellegrino via TKO at Round 1
  • Eric Prindle vs Thiago Santos went to a No-Contest as Santos kicked Prindle in the groin during Round 1and Prindle was unable to continue.

I was surprised that the last fight of Season 5 ended up being a no-contest and the Heavyweight Tournament had no winner. I hope Bellator resolves this issue ASAP.

College Football
Over the weekend in College Football, the Oklahoma Sooners defeated Iowa State 26-6, Notre Dame fell to Stanford 28-14 in their last game of the season, Rutgers fell to Connecticut 40-22 in their last game of the season, and last but not least Kean University lost the NCAA Tournament to Salisbury University 49-47.

WWE
Last Friday on SmackDown was an out of the ordinary episode since WWE teased a MiTB cashing in and had Daniel Bryan win the World Heavyweight Championship for 2 minutes. Although SmackDown GM Theodore Long nullified this decision (thus Daniel Bryan is still MiTB briefcase holder), he gave Daniel Bryan a slot in a Fatal 4-Way match to face Mark Henry in a steel cage match on a special live edition on SmackDown. At the end of the night, Daniel Bryan won that match, and will face Mark Henry this Tuesday in a live SmackDown hosted by Mick Foley.

Here's a recap of what happened last week on WWE TV

This Monday on Raw will have a WWE Championship rematch between CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio. Also, Roddy Piper will host "Piper's Pit" and John Cena is the guest of the segment.

That's all I have to say for now. Have a good week!

11/25/2011- UFC 139 results, Bellator 58 results, NFL Recap, more

Happy Black Friday everyone! I hope all of you enjoyed your Thanksgiving Day! And don't worry, I didn't end the sports blog, just got caught up in a lot of school work and I never had the time to write a blog these past 2 weeks. Here's the info on what happened last weekend, yesterday on Thanksgiving, and a preview of what will happen this weekend. Let's do this!

NFL
After a loss to the Patriots, the NY Jets attempted to rebound last Thursday with a win over Denver Broncos. However, it was unsuccessful as Tim Tebow of the Broncos ran for a touchdown. Here are the highlights from that game:

Few days later on Sunday Night Football, the Giants also attempted to rebound from a 49ers road loss. It was unsuccessful, as the Giants lost to the Eagles at home 17-10.

Fast forward to the Thanksgiving Day games, the Lions hosted the undefeated Packers, Cowboys hosted the Dolphins, and the Ravens hosted the 49ers in a prime time game on the NFL Network. The Lions, who were looking to end the Packers undefeated streak failed to do so as the Packers got the better end of the Lions. Here are the highlights:

Later that day, Dallas Cowboys hosted the Miami Dolphins. Dallas dominated most of the game, but Miami attempted to make a comeback. Although Miami had a short lead in the 4th quarter, it proved to backfire them as Dallas made a field goal winning kick. Here are the highlights:

In the prime time portion of the Thanksgiving Day games, the Baltimore Ravens upset the heavily favored San Francisco 49ers with a victory of 16-6.

This weekend, the New York Jets will host the Buffalo Bills, and the following night on Monday Night Football, the New York Giants will face the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome. With that being said, are the Jets and Giants eliminated from playoffs contender ship?
UFC
UFC 139 took place last Saturday night in the HP Pavillion in San Jose, CA. Overall, there were 12 fights on the card. 5 were streamed on Facebook, 2 aired on Spike TV, while the rest aired on PPV. Here are the results:
Facebook
  • Danny Castillo def Shamar Bailey via TKO at Round 1*
  • Seth Baczynski def Matt Brown via submission at Round 2*
  • Miguel Torres def Nick Pace via unanimous decision
  • Gleison Tibau def Rafael dos Anjos via split decision
  • Chris Weidman def Tom Lawlor via technical submission at Round 1*
Spike
  • Michael McDonald def Alex Soto via KO at Round 1
  • Ryan Bader def Jason Brilz via KO at Round 1
PPV
  • Stephan Bonnar def Kyle Kingsbury via unanimous decision
  • Martin Kampmann def Rick Story via unanimous decision
  • Urijah Faber def Brian Bowles via submission at Round 2
  • Wanderlei Silva def Cung Le via TKO at Round 2
  • Dan Henderson def Mauricio "Shogun" Rua via unanimous decision
*- this also aired on Spike

Bellator
Bellator 58 took place the same night as UFC 139, but this was televised on MTV 2. Here are the results of the main card:
  • Marlon Sandro def Rafael Dias via submission at Round 1
  • Jessica Aguilar def Lisa Ellis-Ward via unanimous decision
  • Hector Lombard def Trevor Prangley via TKO at Round 2
  • Michael Chandler def Eddie Alvarez via submission in Round 4 to become the NEW Bellator Lightweight Champion
Here are the highlights from Bellator 58:

Also, due to the fight between Michael Chandler and Eddie Alvarez being the Bellator Fight of the Year, the full fight has been posted online.

Bellator 59 will take place this Saturday night as the season finale of Season 5.

WWE
This past Sunday was the 25th Anniversary of Survivor Series. The main event was a tag team match consisting of The Rock & John Cena vs The Miz and R-Truth. Here are the results:
  • Dolph Ziggler def John Morrison to retain the United States Championship
  • Beth Phoenix def Eve to retain the Divas Championship
  • Team Barrett def Team Orton in a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match (Wade Barrett and Cody Rhodes were the sole survivors. The elimination order consists of Dolph Ziggler eliminated by Orton, Sin Cara eliminated by injury, Mason Ryan eliminated by Cody Rhodes, Kofi Kingston eliminated by Wade Barrett, Sheamus eliminated by DQ, Jack Swagger eliminated by Orton, Hunico eliminated by Orton, and Randy Orton eliminated by Wade Barrett.)
  • CM Punk def Alberto Del Rio to win the WWE Championship
  • The Rock & John Cena def The Miz and R-Truth
Overall, it was a good PPV. Better PPV I ordered compared to WrestleMania 27. The opening match wasn't that special since Morrison is leaving the WWE, but it was nice that Long Island native Zack Ryder made an appearance after the match. Divas match was a miss, but the rest of the card was a sleeper hit. The two people that stole the show were CM Punk and The Rock, respectively. CM Punk, who no one expected to win the WWE title won via Anaconda Vise to Del Rio. The best part about it was Howard Finkel was the guest ring announcer for that match. The Rock stole the show since it was his 1st time in the ring since 2004 (ironically his 1st match, last match as a full time wrestler, and his return match took place in MSG). No one thought that The Rock would become a technician in the match, but I'm glad to see that he wrestled like he was 29 years old. The last veteran to surprise me was Ricky Steamboat. After the match, The Rock gave John Cena the Rock Bottom to which the crowd responded with a enormous pop.

Unfortunately, the following night on Raw wasn't that special since it was a hangover show from the PPV, but it did set the tone for a future Booker T/ Cody Rhodes feud. Also, the team of Awesome Truth broke up as The Miz attacked R-Truth on the titan tron stage. This was done to write R-Truth off the story lines as he got a 30-day suspension for a Wellness Policy violation. Another write off in story lines is Sin Cara since Cara suffered a ruptured patella and will be out for 6-9 months, therefore a Mysterio/Cara match off the cards for the time being.

Here are the highlights from Survivor Series:

That's all I have to say for now. Have a good weekend!

11/4/2011- Mayweather vs Pacquiao scheduled for 5/5/2012, NY Jets def Buffalo, NY Giants def Patriots, UFC 138 results, WWE Week in 90 Seconds, more

Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a good weekend as there were a lot of upset victories in football. Here are the highlights of what happened over the weekend.
Boxing
After many years, ESPN announced that Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao will fight on May 5, 2012. For those who are confused as to why this is a big deal, here is why. After the glory days of where the legends such as Muhammed Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson, Oscar De La Hoya, George Foreman graced their presence in the ring, boxing went into a steep decline. The decline is mostly due to MMA going on the rise, mainly due to UFC reforming their rules in the early 2000s. Since the period of decline, there have only been a few famous fighters, notably the two I mentioned above.  Keep in mind that neither of the two boxers have signed the dotted line to make it official, so when it happens, I will let you know.

NFL
Yesterday was a day of upset victories as the New York Jets defeated the heavily favored Buffalo Bills, and the New York Giants defeated the extremely favored New England Patriots in a Super Bowl rematch. In the early game, after a scoreless 1st quarter, the Jets managed to make a field goal in the 2nd quarter, and the rest was history written by the Jets. Here are the highlights:

Later on, once the Jets/Bills game concluded, the Giants faced the Patriots in Foxborough in a Super Bowl rematch 4 years in the making (that is, if you don't include the preseason). Neither team scored in the 1st half, but things began to pick up as the Giants started to score. Patriots attempted a comeback, but in the end the Giants made a bigger comeback and what I would call "The Miracle at Foxborough". Here are the highlights:

Due to the Giants victory, the AFC East is a now a 3-way tie for 1st place between the Jets, Bills, and Patriots.

WWE
Here are the highlights that occurred last week in WWE Television:

This week, WWE will be in the UK as they are on a European Tour, and will tape episodes of Raw and SmackDown for the week.

UFC
UFC 138 took place last Saturday night, and featured the main event between Chris Leben vs Mark Munoz. Overall, there were 10 fights on the card. 5 were streamed live on Facebook, while the other 5 aired on Spike via tape delay since this event took place in the UK. Here are the results:

Facebook
  • Chris Cariaso def Vaughan Lee via split decision
  • Che Mills def Chris Cope via TKO at Round 1*
  • Michihiro Omigawa def Jason Young via unanimous decision
  • Philip De Fries def Rob Broughton via unanimous decision
  • John Maguire def Justin Edwards via uanimous decision*
Spike
  • Terry Etim def Eddie Faaloloto via submission at Round 1
  • Anthony Perosh def Cyrille Diabate via submission at Round 2
  • Thiago Alves def Papy Abedi via submission at Round 1
  • Renan Barao def Brad Pickett via submission at Round 1
  • Mark Munoz def Chris Leben via TKO at Round 2
College Football
Last Saturday in College Football, Oklahoma Sooners def Texas A&M 41-25, Rutgers def South Florida 20-17 at the OT, Notre Dame def Wake Forest 24-17, and last but not least LSU def Alabama 9-6 at the OT to remain undefeated. The latter game that I mentioned was considered to be the College Football Game of the Week. Here are the highlights of LSU/Alabama:

That's all I have to say for now! Have a good week!
