2/4/2013- Baltimore Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII, Bruno Sammartino to be inducted into WWE Hall of Fame

Hey everyone! I hope all of you had a great weekend! Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Here we go!

NFL
Yesterday was the Super Bowl, and it took place in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Louisiana Superdome. The Baltimore Ravens faced the San Francisco 49ers, and there were moments to remember. Notable moments include a brawl that took place after Kaepernick threw a pick, which would've resulted in an ejection of players, the halftime show which Beyonce looked really nice, and a partial power outage that resulted in the game being suspended for 30 minutes. After the power outage, the 49ers all of a sudden looked to make a come from behind win, but the Ravens sealed the deal and made sure they emerged as Super Bowl Champions. Here are the highlights:

Now that football season is officially over, this will be the last time I'll mention football (unless something newsworthy happens during the off season) until the New York Jets and New York Giants report to training camp and start preseason. As a Jets fan, I'm really happy that football season is over, and now I can look forward to Yankees baseball season to start.

WWE
It was announced in an article on Pro Wrestling.Net that Bruno Sammartino, who is the longest reigning WWE Champion in history (back when it was the World Wide Wrestling Federation) will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. This comes as a surprise since Bruno left the World Wrestling Federation on bad terms with Vince McMahon and didn't want to do anything related to the WWE. However, I read that Triple H personally visited Bruno at his home, and convinced Bruno to accept the induction as the WWE has changed into a family friendly format and it was no longer the controversial Attitude Era. Keep in mind, this is just a story so I don't know what really happened. In my opinion, this is an induction that is long-awaited and well deserved. Congratulations to Bruno Sammartino on his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2013. He will be joining the likes of Mick Foley, Bob Backlund, and Trish Stratus. And that's a very strong HOF class

More details will be shared tonight on Raw

That's all I have to say for now. Enjoy the rest of your week!

1/29/2013- WWE Royal Rumble results, UFC on FOX results, NYCKNP Blog is now on YouTube

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great weekend this weekend. I was planning to post this on a Monday, but I never had the time so I'm posting this on a Tuesday (which is rare, but not unheard of). Let's cut to the chase, shall we. Here we go!

New Development
The cat is officially out of the bag. The NYCKNP Blog is now a YouTube channel. Unlike this website, the NYCKNP Blog will have topics that will expand outside of sports. There will be a sports show, but it will be branded as The Weekly Update. The Weekly Update is similar to this website, but there are some modifications. Other topics that will be covered on the YouTube channel are movies (branded as Movie Talk), music, TV shows, video games, product reviews, along with some specials. However, there are no names for the music, TV shows, or video games themed shows as those titles are a work in progress. If you have any suggestions, let me know and I may consider it.

So you are wondering, what does this mean for the website? The good news is that the website will remain. I will still make posts on a regular basis, along with my YouTube project. The reason why I wasn't able to create a blog post on Friday because I was filming 2 shows on the same day and never had the time. After taping the shows, I have to edit it and it takes time. Thus, I won't do that again. From now on, The Weekly Update will be taped once a week and aired on Fridays. If I do upload more than one video in the same week, that is likely due to the fact that I taped something on a different day.

Here is the link to my YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/nycknp

Now that my explanation is officially over, let's return this back to our originally scheduled post.

  • The Rock def. CM Punk to become the NEW WWE Champion*
*- Originally, CM Punk pinned The Rock due to outside interference from The Shield. However, Vince McMahon came out and was planning to strip the title, but instead restarted the match based on The Rock's request. The Rock would win the restarted match.

Here are the highlights from the Royal Rumble match only

I did see Raw last night, but not in it's entirety. What I did hear is that John Cena will use the Royal Rumble opportunity to go after the WWE Championship. Also, it was announced that Trish Stratus will be inducted into the 2013 WWE Hall of Fame. More details to come...

Also, before I close, please check out the sports blog called Sports Talk: An Insight of True Sports Fans written by Jason Rodriguez. The link is http://sportsmaniai.blogspot.com/

That's all I have to say for now. Have a good rest of the week!

1/22/2013- First Blog of 2013: Getting back into the habit

Hello everyone! This is my 1st blog post of 2013. The reason why I was absent for most of January is due to the fact that I was out of town from January 2nd until January 13th, and when I returned I was completely under the weather. If you are wondering where I went, I was in Hawaii at the time. Overall, I had a great time over there. The parts of Hawaii I visited were Honolulu, Maui (where I was on the Road to Hana), the big island of Hawaii and the towns visited were Hilo and Kona (yes, the place where it's famous for Kona Coffee), and Kauai. How was it all possible? I took a cruise called NCL- Pride of America where it went to these islands from the port in Honolulu.

Now, I have recovered from being under the weather and am slowly getting back into the habit of blogging again. You will see a full blog eventually. As for now, take care and stay warm.

And remember... This Friday.... It's Coming... Stay Tuned!!!

12/31/2012- Last blog of 2012. My thoughts heading into 2013

Hello everyone! 2012 is coming to an end within a few hours, and tomorrow will be 2013. My thoughts on 2012 was that it was an eventful year.

In NY sports, only one team made it to the postseason in the 2012 calendar year, and that was the New York Yankees. However, Yankee fans such as myself want to forget that postseason since the ALCS was the worst thing to see after Jeter was injured and the rest of the roster didn't respond back. In professional wrestling, it was a decent year since TNA expanded into India and had their own spinoff promotion called Ring Ka King, which was moderately successful. The wrestlers such as Chavo Guerrero Jr, Joey Ryan, and the former Luke Gallows became successful in RKK that they even went to TNA's flagship show, Impact Wrestling. ROH, I don't follow as much as I used to since they don't have a television presence in the NYC media market, and have somewhat became a shell of it's former self. Nonetheless, I wish everyone in ROH good luck. WWE, on the other hand had made history since WrestleMania 28 made a lot of profit promoting The Rock vs John Cena match, which The Rock emerged victorious. Also, Raw expanded to 3 hours which began in late July from their 1000th episode (TNA also responded back by having Impact Live on Thursdays from 8-10 PM on Spike). Early on, the 3 hours was an initial success, but it soon became over saturation since WWE produced too many programming in one week. It starts off with a 3 hour Raw, then WWE Main Event on Wednesday, followed by Friday Night SmackDown, and to close the week WWE Saturday Morning Slam.

Shifting towards MMA, UFC made it's full transition to Fox Sports as UFC now has events on FOX, FX, and Fuel TV along with their revenue earned from PPV. UFC attempted to make Ultimate Fighter Live on Fridays, which failed miserably, but it wasn't all bad since they had the return of Georges St Pierre who came off a year long injury and defeated Carlos Condit to become the Undisputed UFC Welterweight Champion. Other notable UFC moments were Cain Velasquez regaining the UFC Heavyweight Title from Junior Dos Santos and Ronda Rousey becoming the first UFC Women's Champion, ending the debate on whether the UFC would have a female division. Also, outside of UFC, Bellator improved on their product going into 2013, which is potentially their big year debuting on Spike TV.

Outside of sports, it was also very eventful since we had a Presidential Election where Incumbent Barack Obama defeated the Challenger Mitt Romney in a very close election. And a week before the election was Hurricane Sandy, which caused a lot of damage. Fortunate for me, I was lucky to only lose power for a day and a half. Also, Toonami returned to television after a four year absence.

Here's hoping for a better 2013. Bigger things are coming, and remember... Stay Tuned! Happy New Year!

12/11/2012- Bellator 83 results, UFC on FOX 5 results, NY Jets def Jacksonville, NY Giants def New Orleans

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great weekend! Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Here we go!

NFL
This past Sunday, the New York Jets defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 17-10. Early in the game, the Jets struggled, and gave up a field goal, while trailing by 3 to zip towards halftime, but in the second half, the run game got their groove and helped the team get a win.

Later that day, the New York Giants hosted the New Orleans Saints. Early on, the Giants had a hiccup, but thanks to David Wilson's breakout performance, the Giants got a blowout win 52-27.

Bellator
Bellator 83 took place last Friday at Caesars Atlantic City in Atlantic City, NJ and aired on MTV 2. Here are the results of the main card:
  • Jessica Eye def Zoila Gurgel via submission at Round 1
  • Darrell Horcher def Chris Liguori via unanimous decision
  • Anthony Leone def Zach Makovsky via split decision
Here are the highlights:

UFC
The following night, UFC on FOX 5 took place, and it was considered one of the biggest cards on broadcast television for UFC. Here are the results:

Facebook
  • Scott Jorgensen def John Albert via submission at Round 1
FX
  • Dennis Silver def Nam Phan via unanimous decision
  • Abel Trujillo def Marcus LeVesseur via TKO at Round 2
  • Daron Cruickshank def Henry Martinez via KO at Round 2
  • Ramsey Nijem def Joe Proctor via unanimous decision
  • Raphael Assuncao def Mike Easton via unanimous decision
  • Yves Edwards def Jeremy Stephens via KO
FOX
  • Matt Brown def Mike Swick via KO at Round 2
  • Rory MacDonald def BJ Penn via unanimous decision
  • Alexander Gustafsson def Mauricio Rua via unanimous decision
  • Benson Henderson def Nate Diaz via unanimous decision to retain the UFC Lightweight Championship
That's all I have to say for now. Have a good rest of the week!

12/7/2012- Changes to WWE TLC PPV, preview of Jets/Jaguars;Saints/Giants, more

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great week this week. Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Here we go!

WWE
The originally scheduled match between WWE Champion CM Punk and Ryback in a TLC match will not take place at the WWE: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs PPV. The reason being that CM Punk got knee surgery and will need a few weeks to recover. The match that will replace the WWE title match is a 6 man TLC tag team match between the team of Ryback, Kane, and Daniel Bryan vs The Shield (Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins).

MMA
Tonight, Bellator 83 is currently in progress on MTV 2. Also, tomorrow night, UFC on FOX will take place where the main event is between Ben Henderson vs Nate Diaz for the UFC Lightweight Championship. One notable thing to occur is that majority of the prelims will air on FX instead of Fuel TV.

NFL
This Sunday, the New York Jets will be in Jacksonville, Florida to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 1 PM game on CBS, while the New York Giants will host the New Orleans Saints in the late game on FOX. While there is no controversy for the Giants, there is controversy when it came to the Jets. Last Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, Jets QB Mark Sanchez had a very BAD performance and threw 3 interceptions. Not only did this cause the fans to almost start a riot, but Rex had to pull Sanchez and insert 3rd string QB Greg McElroy late into the game (Tebow was inactive due to broken ribs). The insertion of Greg McElroy paid off for the Jets since the game was on the line, and he managed to give the team a win (albeit an ugly win).

On Wednesday, Rex announced that Sanchez will start against JAX. Although this was an unpopular decision, I wasn't very surprised at all by this. However, Sanchez must be kept on a VERY SHORT leash. One screw up, and he has to sit down. Now, I have no hatred towards Mark Sanchez at all, but he has no confidence in himself and I believe the best thing for him is to switch careers. The pressure of being in NYC got to him, and being a professional athlete in The Big Apple is very tough. As for Sunday's game, let's wait and see.

That's all I have to say for now. Have a good weekend!
