5/14/2012- Yankees def Mariners 2 out of 3, Marlins def Mets 2 out of 3, Bellator 68 Results, more

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great weekend as this weekend was Mother's Day weekend. There were a lot of newsworthy events that occurred over the weekend as you read along, so here we go!

MLB
During the weekend, the Yankees defeated the Mariners on Friday and Saturday, but the Seattle team avoided a sweep on Sunday when it was also the day of Andy Pettitte's return to The Bronx. Meanwhile for the Mets, they fell short on Friday, won on Saturday, but couldn't win the series on Sunday to the Miami Marlins.

This week, the Yankees will be heading on the road to Baltimore for only 2 days to face the Orioles, then head north of the border to face the Toronto Blue Jays for 2 days as well. The Mets will host the Milwaukee Brewers for 2 days, then face the Cincinatti Reds for 2 days as well. The reason why is mainly due to interleague weekend coming up.

Bellator
Bellator 68 took place on Friday night in Caesar's Casino in Atlantic City, NJ and aired on MTV 2. Here are the results from the main card:
  • Marius Zaromskis def Waachiim Spiritwolf via Doctor's Stoppage after Round 2
  • Marcin Held def Derrick Kennington via submission at Round 1
  • Marcos Galvao def Travis Marx to advance to the Bantamweight Tournament Final
  • Daniel Straus def Marlon Sandro to win the Season 6 Featherweight Tournament
Here are the highlights from Bellator 68:

UFC
This Tuesday, UFC will host a UFC on Fuel TV event, where it will emanate from the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia, and will be headlined by "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung and Dustin Poirier. If you don't have FuelTV, you can also view it on FOX Deportes as well since Deportes will simulcast the event in Spanish.

WWE
This past Friday on SmackDown focused on the feud between Randy Orton, Sheamus, Chris Jericho, and Alberto Del Rio since all four of them will face each other for Sheamus' World Title at Over the Limit. Also, it was a continuation of the confrontation between The Big Show and John Laurinaitis since last week on Raw, Show imitated Johnny Ace's voice. Overall, it was an okay episode, where the hit was solely on the feud for the World Heavyweight Championship. The one thing I didn't like was Antonio Cesaro's theme song. Come on, he was part of a famous tag team with Chris Hero in ROH, and gets a generic theme song for his debut match. And Aksana as his valet?! What's up with that?!

This Monday on Raw will continue where Johnny Ace and Big Show left on SmackDown, and Triple H is scheduled to make an appearance. Also, it was announced late last week that WWE NXT will move their tapings to Full Sail University in Florida where it will focus on the developmental talent from FCW and the NXT wrestlers.

That's all I have to say for now. Have a good week!

5/11/2012- "King" Muhammed Lawal signs with Impact Wrestling and Bellator Fighting Championships, Mets sweep Phillies, Yankees def Rays 2 out of 3, more

Hello everyone! I'm back from my hiatus. I had final exams going on earlier this week and during most of April, I had no time to blog at all. However, I'm back and I got some stories to share as you read along. Here we go!!

Impact Wrestling/Bellator

As you may know, former Strikeforce fighter "King" Muhammed Lawal has signed simultaneously to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and Bellator Fighting Championships. The press conference was held yesterday, and Spike TV was there to cover this.

As seen on the video above, King Mo will make his Impact Wrestling debut first before joining Bellator in 2013. In my opinion, I think this is a great idea, and it breaks the stereotype that pro wrestling and mixed martial arts can't get along. As for how King Mo will make an impact, let's see what happens.

Here is a picture from the press conference yesterday:

MLB
So far in the world of Major League Baseball, it's been topsy-turvy. All of the good teams from last year are doing bad, and all of the bad teams from last year are doing good. What's up with that? Anyways, earlier in the week, the New York Mets visited the Philadelphia Phillies and delivered a 3 game sweep. Meanwhile, back in the Bronx, the Yankees got a win over the Rays on Tuesday, lost on Wednesday due to a blown save from David Robertson, and won yesterday to win the series.

This weekend, the Yankees will host the Mariners, while the Mets will play in Miami against the Miami Marlins.

WWE
This past Monday on Raw was an episode where "The Bad Guys won the battle". John Laurinaitis took his power of GM and used it for his own personal gain as last week he attacked John Cena. Overall, it was an okay Raw, but the highlight from that episode was when Paul Heyman made his return as Brock Lesnar's legal representative.

That's all I have to say for now. Have a good weekend!

5/8/2012- I'm back!

Hello everyone! The inactivity period of the NYCKNP Blog is unofficially over. It will be officially over later this week when I start returning to bi-weekly blogging. My final exams are pretty much over so I will now start to blog again during my free time. I don't have anything to share for now, but I will share some links to read that I thought were interesting.

NYCKNP Blog will be inactive until further notice.

Hello everyone, this is Kalind speaking. Just to let you know after this blog post, NYCKNP Blog will be inactive for a while. The reason being that class projects and final exams are emerging and I can't do everything at once. Therefore I have given more priority to the last few weeks of the spring semester until it has concluded. While I am away, you can follow me on Twitter: twitter.com/nycknp (or in simple terms @NYCKNP) to know what are my thoughts on sports and in life itself.

In the meantime, enjoy baseball season and for NFL fans who miss the season already, don't forget to watch the NFL draft to see which college player will end up.

That's all I have to say for now. Have a nice day!

4/9/2012- Mets sweep Braves, Rays sweep Yankees, preview of WWE Raw and SuperSmackDown

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great weekend. For all the New York baseball fans, it was an odd way to start the season. Mets fans were rejoicing, while Yankees fans were disgruntled. I will share more as you read along. Here we go!

MLB
During Opening weekend of the 2012 MLB Season, the Mets had a strong weekend with their sweep against the Atlanta Braves. On Thursday, the Mets shut out the Braves 1-0, next on Saturday was a 4-2 win, and to close the series was 7-5 win. The Yankees on the other hand struggled in their opening weekend as Rivera blew a save on Friday with a 7-6 loss, followed by an 8-6 loss, and to conclude, the Yankees were shut out by the Rays defense in a 3-0 loss. Surprisingly, the Mets are currently 3-0 while the Yankees are 0-3. However, keep in mind that baseball is a very long season and anything can happen.

The Mets will host the Washington Nationals during the week, while the Yankees hope to get their first win of the season at Camden Yards when they face the Baltimore Orioles.

WWE
Tonight on Raw, tune in to find out what is the reason why Brock Lesnar attacked John Cena at the end of Raw last week. Also, this Tuesday is a live episode of SmackDown where they will have a retro night as SmackDown goes "old-school".

That's all I have to say for now. Have a good week!

4/7/2012- Mets on a 2 game streak, Yankees hope to bounce back, WrestleMania XXVIII and The Raw & SmackDown post Mania, more

Hello everyone! I hope all of you are having a great weekend so far. I was planning to post a blog the day after WrestleMania XXVII but got caught up in a lot of other stuff that's been going on. I will share my thoughts of WrestleMania as well as the Raw and SmackDown after the big event. Also, I will share my other stuff as well. Here we go.
WWE
As you may know, WrestleMania 28 took place last Sunday at SunLife Stadium in Miami, Florida. Overall, there were 9 matches on the card. 1 was streamed on YouTube & WWE.com, while the rest of the card took place on PPV. Here are the results:

WWE.com/YouTube/Facebook
  • Primo & Epico def Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd and The Usos in a Triple Threat match to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship
PPV
  • Sheamus def Daniel Bryan (in 18 seconds) to become the NEW World Heavyweight Champion
  • Kane def Randy Orton
  • The Big Show def Cody Rhodes to become the NEW Intercontinental Champion
  • Kelly Kelly & Maria Menounos def Beth Phoenix & Eve Torres in a tag team match
  • The Undertaker def Triple H (w/ Shawn Michaels as special guest referee) to become 20-0 at WrestleMania
  • Team Johnny (David Otunga, Mark Henry, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Drew McIntyre, and The Miz) def Team Teddy (Santino Marella, R-Truth, Kofi Kingston, Zack Ryder, The Great Khali and Booker T) in a 12-man tag team match to allow John Laurinaitis become the General Manager of Raw & SmackDown
  • CM Punk def Chris Jericho to retain the WWE Championship
  • The Rock def John Cena
Overall, I thought this was a better WrestleMania compared to last year's event. The hits of the show were Taker/HHH, Rock/Cena, & Punk/Y2J. Semi-hits were Kane/Orton, Show/Rhodes, while the misses were Bryan/Sheamus, Divas match, and 12 man tag team match. The commentators were Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler, with Jim Ross contributing to the Taker/HHH match and Josh Matthews and Matt Striker calling the pre show. Usually, I don't like Cole's commentary, but he did a decent job calling WrestleMania and made peace with JR for one night.

The celebrities in attendance were Yankees 3rd baseman Alex Rodriguez with his girlfriend and former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson, Andy Garcia, and P-Diddy. Musical performances were from Machine Guns Kelly and Flo Rida, representing John Cena and The Rock respectively.

Here are the highlights from WrestleMania 28:

The day after WrestleMania, The Rock made a promo on Raw thanking the fans at Miami for their support the previous night, and The Rock hinted on having one more run with the WWE Championship title. Overall, it was a good Raw after WrestleMania. Lord Tensai (previously A-Train) made his return/debut, and the most shocking return was former WWE and UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar making his return. After Lesnar's last fight in the UFC, where he lost to Alistair Overeem, Brock decided to retire from MMA. Little did I know that he would make his return to his stomping grounds and attack John Cena in his return.

Yesterday on SmackDown, Daniel Bryan spoke about his loss and blames it on AJ for costing him the World Heavyweight Championship (even though she did nothing of that sort). This would lead to a break up between the two. Also on SmackDown, John Laurinaitis would become the full time SmackDown GM and allow Theodore Long to remain as Assistant GM. Skip Sheffield would return as Ryback, while a new debut is coming soon by the name of Damien Sandow.

Also, despite the fact that Daniel Bryan is a heel, his support grew on Monday night when fans were chanting his name and saying "Yes!, Yes! Yes!" throughout WWE programming. Heck, the chants were even heard in a Miami Heat game.

Next week, SmackDown will be going "old school" on a live episode this Tuesday.

MLB
After spring training ended, it was time for MLB regular season to start. The Mets opened the season on Thursday with a win against the Atlanta Braves, had a day off yesterday (for some unconventional reason), and got a 2nd win over the Braves earlier today. The Yankees on the other hand struggled in their opener on the road as Mariano Rivera blew a save in the bottom of the 9th inning and fell short to the Rays yesterday 7-6.

The Mets will conclude their series against the Braves tomorrow, while the Yankees hope to bounce back in their series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Bellator
Bellator 64 took place last night at Caesar's Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Here are the results of the main card:
  • Hiroshi Nakamura def Rodrigo Lima via unanimous decision
  • Travis Marx def Matsakatsu Ueda via unanimous decision
  • Marlon Sandro def Alexandre Bezerra via split decision
  • Ben Askren def Douglas Lima via unanimous decision to retain the Bellator Welterweight Championship
Here are the highlights from Bellator 64:

That's all I have to say for now! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
