4/7/2012- Mets on a 2 game streak, Yankees hope to bounce back, WrestleMania XXVIII and The Raw & SmackDown post Mania, more

Hello everyone! I hope all of you are having a great weekend so far. I was planning to post a blog the day after WrestleMania XXVII but got caught up in a lot of other stuff that's been going on. I will share my thoughts of WrestleMania as well as the Raw and SmackDown after the big event. Also, I will share my other stuff as well. Here we go.
WWE
As you may know, WrestleMania 28 took place last Sunday at SunLife Stadium in Miami, Florida. Overall, there were 9 matches on the card. 1 was streamed on YouTube & WWE.com, while the rest of the card took place on PPV. Here are the results:

WWE.com/YouTube/Facebook
  • Primo & Epico def Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd and The Usos in a Triple Threat match to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship
PPV
  • Sheamus def Daniel Bryan (in 18 seconds) to become the NEW World Heavyweight Champion
  • Kane def Randy Orton
  • The Big Show def Cody Rhodes to become the NEW Intercontinental Champion
  • Kelly Kelly & Maria Menounos def Beth Phoenix & Eve Torres in a tag team match
  • The Undertaker def Triple H (w/ Shawn Michaels as special guest referee) to become 20-0 at WrestleMania
  • Team Johnny (David Otunga, Mark Henry, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, Drew McIntyre, and The Miz) def Team Teddy (Santino Marella, R-Truth, Kofi Kingston, Zack Ryder, The Great Khali and Booker T) in a 12-man tag team match to allow John Laurinaitis become the General Manager of Raw & SmackDown
  • CM Punk def Chris Jericho to retain the WWE Championship
  • The Rock def John Cena
Overall, I thought this was a better WrestleMania compared to last year's event. The hits of the show were Taker/HHH, Rock/Cena, & Punk/Y2J. Semi-hits were Kane/Orton, Show/Rhodes, while the misses were Bryan/Sheamus, Divas match, and 12 man tag team match. The commentators were Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler, with Jim Ross contributing to the Taker/HHH match and Josh Matthews and Matt Striker calling the pre show. Usually, I don't like Cole's commentary, but he did a decent job calling WrestleMania and made peace with JR for one night.

The celebrities in attendance were Yankees 3rd baseman Alex Rodriguez with his girlfriend and former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson, Andy Garcia, and P-Diddy. Musical performances were from Machine Guns Kelly and Flo Rida, representing John Cena and The Rock respectively.

Here are the highlights from WrestleMania 28:

The day after WrestleMania, The Rock made a promo on Raw thanking the fans at Miami for their support the previous night, and The Rock hinted on having one more run with the WWE Championship title. Overall, it was a good Raw after WrestleMania. Lord Tensai (previously A-Train) made his return/debut, and the most shocking return was former WWE and UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar making his return. After Lesnar's last fight in the UFC, where he lost to Alistair Overeem, Brock decided to retire from MMA. Little did I know that he would make his return to his stomping grounds and attack John Cena in his return.

Yesterday on SmackDown, Daniel Bryan spoke about his loss and blames it on AJ for costing him the World Heavyweight Championship (even though she did nothing of that sort). This would lead to a break up between the two. Also on SmackDown, John Laurinaitis would become the full time SmackDown GM and allow Theodore Long to remain as Assistant GM. Skip Sheffield would return as Ryback, while a new debut is coming soon by the name of Damien Sandow.

Also, despite the fact that Daniel Bryan is a heel, his support grew on Monday night when fans were chanting his name and saying "Yes!, Yes! Yes!" throughout WWE programming. Heck, the chants were even heard in a Miami Heat game.

Next week, SmackDown will be going "old school" on a live episode this Tuesday.

MLB
After spring training ended, it was time for MLB regular season to start. The Mets opened the season on Thursday with a win against the Atlanta Braves, had a day off yesterday (for some unconventional reason), and got a 2nd win over the Braves earlier today. The Yankees on the other hand struggled in their opener on the road as Mariano Rivera blew a save in the bottom of the 9th inning and fell short to the Rays yesterday 7-6.

The Mets will conclude their series against the Braves tomorrow, while the Yankees hope to bounce back in their series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Bellator
Bellator 64 took place last night at Caesar's Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Here are the results of the main card:
  • Hiroshi Nakamura def Rodrigo Lima via unanimous decision
  • Travis Marx def Matsakatsu Ueda via unanimous decision
  • Marlon Sandro def Alexandre Bezerra via split decision
  • Ben Askren def Douglas Lima via unanimous decision to retain the Bellator Welterweight Championship
Here are the highlights from Bellator 64:

That's all I have to say for now! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
